Microdosing Protocols

NOTE: This article discusses microdosing with psilocybin truffles, however you could apply these protocols to microdose with pretty much any substance of your choice.


It is recommended that you take the microdose according to a specific schedule that specifies how often and when you take the microdose. This is called a protocol.


There are several common protocols that you can follow, but at the end of the day the best way to microdose is the way that works for you. Therefore you can take inspiration from the protocols we introduce below, and adjust the frequency, dosage and time of the day that suits you.


It is a really good idea to journal. I am not the journaling type of person myself, but I wish I was! If you were disciplined enough to keep record of dosage/frequency and how it made you feel, you could fairly quickly have your own protocol that works for you.


Note, that at different times of the year, age, your personal situation and emotional status, you may need to adjust. So monitor yourself, note how you feel and do not be afraid to make changes.


Here is an overview of the most common protocols


 

1. Fadiman Protocol

We believe that James Fadiman's protocol is a good basis for the first microdosing experiment. This protocol is based on a 3-day cycle, for the next 4 to 8 weeks. Try this microdosing regimen for at least a month to find out if it is right for you.

Day 4: You are taking a dose

Repeat this cycle and after 8 weeks, take 2 to 4 weeks of rest for your system to reset.


 

2. Two days on, two days off protocol

3. Every other day microdosing protocol

 Taking a dose more often, ensures that all beneficial substances enter and stay in the system throughout the microdosing period. This may be beneficial when going through more stressful or demanding times in your life.
